Elementary Program
~ Cycles 2 & 3 of 5 ~
Although in France Kindergarten is considered the last level of Preschool (Cycle 1 of 5), we are including it in this section so as to coincide with the American system. Conversely, although in the French system like in the American system Grade 6 is considered the first year of Middle School, we are including it here as it is part of the 3rd Cycle, which is one of the two cycles of the French Elementary program:
Cycle 2 - Foundation
The primary purpose of this 3-year cycle is to provide students with a solid foundation in reading, writing, problem solving and general language skills. The academic subjects taught include French Language Arts, English Language Arts, Math, Discovering the World (a combination of science and social studies), Civics & Ethics, Art & Music, and P.E. The main goal of this cycle is to ensure students fully assimilate the academic fundamentals by discovering the joy of reading, honing their verbal communication skills, beginning to develop their writing abilities, and learning about the world around them.
Cycle 3 - Consolidation
This 3-year cycle has two primary objectives: reinforcing the foundational skills and knowledge acquired in Cycle 2 and preparing students to transition from primary school to middle school. The academic subjects taught in this cycle include French Language Arts, English Language Arts, Math, Science & Technology, History & Geography, Civics & Ethics, Art History, Music, Fine Arts, P.E.
